Why 16 Year Olds Should Drive

Why 16 Year Olds Should Drive

People have often question if it is a good idea for 16 year old to drive. In this article I will give you many different reasons.

The reason why I think 16 year olds should be able to drive is because their parents aren’t going to drive them everywhere. Also, I think a sixteen year old is responsible enough. And also they could car pool to school with their friends.

First off, their parents can’t drive them everywhere. They had to when they were born until they were 15 years old. Also this way they won’t be embarrassed when riding with you parents. They are older so let them drive.

Secondly, they are responsible. Just let them drive! They may do something irresponsible every once in a while, but who doesn’t do something irresponsible. I mean they have matured a lot. So just relax most teens can handle themselves, but there are some exceptions.

Finally, if you would let them drive they could car pool. Then they could get to school faster and safer because there wouldn’t be as many cars. If every one drove their own car, it would be like New York City at 5 p.m.

So for goodness sake just trust them and let them drive, but maybe not your $50,000 car. But still if you can trust them let them. How can they get more responsible if you don’t let them gain more trust.

i disagree with you
16 year olds should not be able to drive because…
a. they are not mature enough
b. for every mile a 16 year old drives they have a 46% chance of getting in a car crash
c. 2,926,000 teenagers were killed in an accident last year
d. last year they killed 13,000 OTHER people
e. if teenagers don’t drive auto insurance and gas prices will go down
f. 16 year olds are 4 times more likely to get in an accident than any other age

No 16 year old should not be able to drive, if your not old enough to drink then you shouldnt be old enough to drive. As for carpooling at 16 that is illegal becuase at that age you only have your G1 and by law it staes you can only have one other passenger under 16. Plus 16 year olds are nto mature enough and anyone who says otherwise is a 16 year old, you dont know what mature is yet. I dont agree with anythign at all you said there, what are you 16 tryign to convince peope your mature enough to drive, you dont even understand the law at all do you. Should take away your license.

If there were any adults who read this, it gave them another reason to not letting us drive. You cant even write an understandable essay, what makes you think we’re going to be able to handle a car???

Driving is a privilege, not a right.
And sixteen year olds should NOT be able to drive a vehicle alone.
I’m all for letting you get your permit at 15, but by allowing you to drive at such a young age is huge disservice not only to yourself, but to the other people on the road.
It may seem unfair at the moment; that people are “robbing” you of your right to drive, but when you’re older you’ll look back and think, “Why the heck did i need a license at 16?”
Trust me, been there. Done that.

I don’t want to be mean like the other commentators, but your reasons are pretty lame,
especially the one stating that you can carpool. That is the worst idea; a bunch of 16 year olds in one car, messing around, blasting the music – that’s just asking for a car wreck.

Check out the statistics.

Driving Age Limit Persuasive Essay
Have you heard teens whine about the driving age? I have and I’m tired of it. The age limit for driving should be changed, but not how the teens want it. I believe we should raise the age limit to 18*. There are many reasons for my attitude on this issue. For starters, teens have been known to be crazy and absolutely love to cause mischief. Giving them a car won’t help. It is also known and proven by scientists that the cerebrum, the part of the brain that is associated with reasoning, orientation, visual processing, and movement plays a very important role in driving and understanding or comprehending what is going on around you. Adults have more developed ones since, obviously, they are older. Therefore they have more developed cerebrums. Teenagers however have under developed cerebrums, and won’t be as experienced and in control as more mature drivers. Do you really want to drive with inexperienced drivers? Plus, I don’t see a fourteen year old like myself driving anytime soon.
Teens always have reasons why they think they should drive. For example, “I’m being robbed of my right to drive!” that may be how it seems now but when you get older you’ll look back and ask yourself “why did I need a license at age sixteen?” But one of the main complaints has to be, “My parents are too busy and I need to be able to get around!” well you could just walk or ride with your older friends.

part 1 on why teens shouldnt drive at 16
*im 14*
*dont insult me*
*cause im 14*
*jeez*

me, posted this comment on Mar 4th, 2009

if this sucks like the person who wrote the main topic at the top, plz refrain from the insults I HAVE ENOUGH CRAP TO DEAL WITH.

part 2

Teens always have reasons why they think they should drive. For example, “I’m being robbed of my right to drive!” that may be how it seems now but when you get older you’ll look back and ask yourself “why did I need a license at age sixteen?” But one of the main complaints has to be, “My parents are too busy and I need to be able to get around!” Some solutions to that would be riding a bike, walking, or riding with your older friends who have licenses.
Did you know that over 5,000 teens were killed last year in car accidents? That’s horrible; just imagine how much that number would rise if fourteen year olds like me were allowed to drive. Last year, as I said 5,000 teens died in accidents but over 13,000 other people were killed by teen drivers. 13,000 people lost their lives due to the fact that we continue to lower the age limit. Not only is it hurting those unfortunate people who happen to get injured by teens driving, it’s hurting everyone else as well! With all these accidents, the insurance and gasoline companies are raising their prices, making life hard for everyone else on the road as well.

*once again refrain from insults*
*thank you*
*i know i sound mature…thank you*

*not done though >.

part 3
I believe that the only way to slowly halt all of this carnage is to simply raise the age limit back up. It’s that simple, raise the age limit to eighteen, take back or put all sixteen year old licenses into “hibernation” per say. Once the person is eighteen re-activate their license, but not before taking a small test or exam to make sure they still know all the rules of the road. If we could do that it would give the teens more time to grow, learn, and develop into safer drivers. A lot of lives can be saved by doing this; it would allow parents to let their kids out to drive without having to worry about them not coming back.
*thank you for your time*

driving is not a right its a privilage, a lot of kids die every year, they are 5 times more likely to be in a car crash than an 18year old so just wait a few years and drive with a permit, its safer and basically the same exept you cant drive at night or with children

Girly, posted this comment on May 8th, 2009

None of you have proof that a teen should drive at 16. You want proof that they should not drive? I can give you plenty. There are many studies on this. First, the leading cause of death in teens are car accidents. Second, about 300,000 teens are injured a year in car accidents. Third, teens are at the highest risk for car accidents than any other age group. Forth, Having teen passenger in the car with the teen driver is more likely to get in an accident, 39% more. 86% more with two teen passengers. And 182% with three teen passengers. Fifth, there are studies that prove that the teen brain has not matured enough to regulate risk taking and impulse control. So the teens saying they should be driving obviously have not looked into it. you haven’t showed any proof that you are ready. Being embarressed because your parent is with you is an obvious sign that you are not mature enough. And you getting upset with what I wrote won’t help your maturity. many of you may think you are responsile enough but there are more of you who are definitly not. Just wait until you have lost a friend in an accident, or when you are a parent someday and maybe you will understand.

you all are retarted… First of all, before you decide that sixteen years old teens should drive.. WHY DONT YOU RESEARCH?? when youre sixteen, you dont fully mature.. not like every one does. but when you turn 18 you look back and say wow, i have matured alot since i was 16. When I got my license i experienced alot that i wasnt ready for. 50 hours is not long enough.. just because you drive like one hour a day does not make you an experienced driver.

Ashley, posted this comment on Nov 30th, 2009

You people say all of this because of accidents caused by teens. Compare them to accidents caused by others, heck elders have caused 4 times more accidents. I’m 13 i’m in 8th grade, I’m mature doing algebra and engineering. I look foward to 16 so I can drive. My mom doesn’t drive and I’m already saving money for everything. I think 16 is a young enough age for people to start learning how to drive. Also if it’s raised to 18 then think your sending your kids of to collage with little experience on driving. Especially if they are going to a collage out of state. staring the age at 16 gives them more experience to go off to collage with. Not ALL teens are like that. And if they are then it’s the parents to blame.

I HAVE PROOF AND HOPE THIS WILL CONVINCE U TO LET UR TEENAGE SON OR DAUGHTER DRIVE :)

Should 16 year olds be able to drive ?

Its a question that is widely discussed through out the country,
wherever a new teenage driver is turning a key in a ignition!

Do you think it would be better if you teenage son or daughter got their driver’s license? Should they be able to drive along the road? Well I do, because it would be easier for them if they have their own transport they then can get to school on time, it makes them more socially active in their community and also it causes less stress on parents who have to drive their kids to school. That’s why I think 16 years olds should be able to drive!

Firstly it would promote them to get to school and college and even to go work on time, rather then getting the public transport which can take as long as 2 hours to get to! It would make them more responsible knowing that they have to drive themselves everywhere and parking in the right place etc. Age is nothing but a number, it matters how responsible and mature the person is. “I don’t think it matters what age you are,” the Hinsdale Central High School sophomore, Lucie Greci, said Monday before hitting the road for her driver’s education class, “as long as you have the practice and experience.” I mean what way would you have it ? At what other age would you suggest they start driving so that they will gain sufficient experience to support their goal of attaining self-sufficient adulthood at the age of 18?

If they have cars then they would be more socially active. For example if they had cars then they could be able to drive to meet up with friends, drive to the library and all other things. Everyone knows how it is to stay cooped up in the house and not enjoying the fresh air nature has to offer. Besides most parent’s are busy and cant drive them everywhere. Its also important that the teen and parent establish a contract, to establish rules for driving. Let your kids roam the world it’s the only way they will live!

Its also a lot easier for the parents not having to drive them everywhere. First off, their parents can’t drive them everywhere. They had to when they were born until they were 15 years old. They drive them to school every morning. Also taking them to extra school activities like football or basketball etc.. “. Most parents don’t like putting their children on busses all time of the night, waiting in the corner in all types of weather. Besides on some days I know my mum picks up my little sister from karate 6:30, drops my brother off at basketball in Frölunda 7:00 and picks up me from swimming at 7:30. You can imagine how hectic it would be!
.

If teenager would be able to drive they would get to school on time, become more socially active and mature, causes less stress on parents who have to drive their kids everywhere. It doesn’t matter what age you are as long as you got the practice and experience. So that’s why I think 16 year olds should be able to drive, but maybe not your $50,000 car!

ok, to all the adults in this conversation i just turned 16 recently and the reason im not geting my license is the insurance is so high priced for 16 year old males. now these reasons suck tremedously, but im writing an essay on this at this very moment and i think that 16’s should drive with restrictions. one restriction like blasting your music and not being able to concentrate on the road. im not the perfect driver i make mistakes just like every adult would do. adults in the age of 30 and above have been driving since they were around 12 or 13 so why would a teenager of this time era be discluded from rights? we can start working at the age of 16 right? so how are we gonna get there and start experiencing the real world if we have no way of getting around? there are some exeptions with the really dumb arrogant teenagers that think they are too cool for laws and speed limits and even stop signs, but trust me adults are no better and many adults like teenagers need to learn to grow up and become more mature so dont blame all the gas and insurance prices sky-rocketing just on teenagers.

okay so i read through almost all the comments and like serial his paper was alright like if you were doing an essay for class but if you were really trying to convine your parents/guardians/ people who let you drive then the reasons should be grossly overstated dramatic and logical… myself i am i dont have my liscence and well i am older than 16… the reason i dont know i am a straight A student and i am in every single activity possible in high school i need to go everywhere and be places at the same time…. i seee people who dont need a car really and just drive around senselessly and uncatiously 99% however those people are no lie spoiled rich kids who drive celicas and mercedes o and corvettes i am not complaining cuz i would like one of those expensive high performance vehicles but ya…. i really believe i need a car because i dont think its fair for my parents to have to devert all there extra time taking me everywhere and then coming home to slave over the stove my reason for driving are purposeful in the never ending attempt for me to be considerate of my parents and how much they do for me and if i can help out just a bit by golly i would jump at the opportunity….. now for another reason for allowing 16/17 yr old to drive is because we have more restrictions .. you might say huh but think abt it when you are 18 and “legal” techincally you are more inclined to do things.. firstly smoking is now legal for you and i dont know bout you bnut i say that even if a 16 yr does smoke (which i do not and will never) dont you think he may do it less for fear of gettin caught as opposed to 18 yr olds who are legal and will do it everytime and btwn you and me smoking balancing a cellphone and driving looks pretty hard… also i think having this new found freedom would make a 18 yr worse they might go out wit friends smoking which might lead to drinkin it’s late cuz you no longer have a driving curfew and BAM!! car crash… however if your 16 have a car and have restrictions: curfew, passangers, i think this would teach you the importance and would be better for a youngster than waiting till 16 were all that rebellion and sense of unfairness for not driving until 18 or later all i am basically saying is if the kid needs a liscence maybe go ahead and give it to him cuz just an opinion i dont know abt the stats and everything but an adult is allowed to so much and a kid is not so i would say besides experience an older drive could potentially be more dangerous than a 16yr old so why not give him a advantage on driving by starting early so that when he is an adult with kids or whatever he can make the right descisions and knowns how to drive and has already gottrn the crazyness outta his system

p.s this would be the poorest and most unorganized thing i have ever typed but i hope you get the point kinda :)

People 16 can be more responsible then people in there 40\’s . 16 year olds are just begining so they are really scared. It is sometimes when people are to confident that they end up in a car crash. But also 16 years olds don’t understand what there dealing with without the proper training. Every one has a choice to make the right one, it doesn’t matter with age. so i am just saying that people need to be careful ;)

im only 13 and im looking forward to be able to drive! i dont want the age to be raised to 18 or 21!! if necessary, we should just haveto enforce some very strict laws on 16 year old drivers, being, one: to have to take MORE than only 48 hours of school or to only drive certain hours of the day, that way their not driving in the night time…idk..the laws stoopid anyway..but THATS THE SHIZ MY NIZ!!

the government should invest in driving education, starting when children begin middle school. if they spent a year or two just learning about all of the rules of the road, then starting driving go karts, or something similar that can\’t go fast, then moved onto cars after passing a test, by the time they turned 16 they would be good, experienced drivers. this would greatly reduce the death toll, insurance prices, and gas prices. if the driving age was raised to 18, then 18 year olds would be unexperienced drivers, and when they left home for college they would be in danger. in becoming a good driver, age isn\’t as important as experience, and there\’s no way to gain experience without driving.

“c. 2,926,000 teenagers were killed in an accident last year”

Please better your research… There may have been 2,926,000 motor vehicle ACCIDENTS. But there is no way that there were that many killed.. According to my research. “The number of drivers ages 15-20 involved in fatal crashes totaled 5,864 in 2008(.)”

Don’t get me wrong, I am a 15 year old kid; almost 16. But i have seen a lot of irresponsible, disrespectful, immature, 16-18 year old kids who definitely need their licenses revoked. The only reasons i see why a teen should be able to drive would be if they proved they were mature enough, and were responsible enough.

well no offense but this essay isn’t very good.but i agree and disagree with some of these people. first off im 16 and i have a license. i can see why they wouldn’t want us having our license, i know some friends of mine who drive recklessly and im even scared to drive sometimes. me on the other hand im a very slow driver, i can’t even go above 60 mph, which brings me to my next point. some of us 16 year olds actually DRIVE RESPONSIBLY(im pretty sure i spelled that wrong lol) but yea. i’d like to say im one of those slow responsible drivers. :) and im pretty sure there are more careful drivers that are 16 than you guys think. but like i said before, i do understand if you guys don’t believe se should have our license.

I say 16 year olds maybe even younger should be able to drive because when your younger you learn faster and if we are 16 and have a license we will be put under rules by our parents like be home by 10:00, go to the store and come straight back. but like an 18-and above year old they get to do whatever they want and didnt have the rules that let them get mature enough, and have the sayings going through there head’s telling them to be careful. i honestly dont think why you would want the age limit raised, there was a show called wife swap, and they were raised on a farm, and they had a son that knew how to drive since he was 7 YEARS OLD? and he’s about 13 now and when they showed it on the TV screen it looked to me that he was a pretty good driver? not all teenagers are irresponsible, immature, cell phone addictive, drinking delinquits that you see in movies, no they are human like any other 30, 20, 6, 43, year olds. im 12 and i think my opinion is right but if u disagree i dont really care, but younger teenagers have a lot to listen to, but by adding more years to being able to get your license isnt fair.
